Have you put the “net” into your Network Marketing business?

If you are not using the Internet to build your network marketing business, you are missing a golden opportunity.  And if you are using the Internet, you need to thing beyond the websites provided by most network marketing companies.

The cookie cutter websites and shopping carts provided by network marketing/direct sales/multi-level-marketing companies are good tools to have but it is not enough.  Here’s why:

  1. Cookie cutter websites are the same and generally there is no way to distinguish yourself a part from the next distributor, other than your contact information.
  2. There is no way to interact with visitors to your website.
  3. You have no control over how the site looks and operates, or over the content of the website.
  4. Most of these websites are just landing pages with a sales pitch about the products and the business opportunity.
  5. There is usually no system in place to drive traffic to these websites and get them ranked with the search engines.

Potential customers and prospects can easily get annoyed with number 4 from above.  Why? Because they’re not looking to get sold to.  They probably found your site because they were looking for a solution to a problem they have.  A landing page is no way to develop a relationship and earn their trust.  You need to be able to develop a relationship with them first and earn their trust before they purchase your products or choose you as their leader in network marketing.

Let’s face it, in the end, you are responsible for directing traffic to your cookie cutter website.  One solution has been to build your own website or landing page, if you will, where you have control over the design, the content and have the ability to get your website ranked by the search engines.  This has been a useful tool to compliment your cookie cutter website but it still lacks one important element.  Interaction!  You need to be able to interact with the people who come to your website besides them filling out a form on your “Contact Me” page.

So what is the solution?  The answer is blogging.

At this moment in time, blogging is the ideal solution to putting the “net” into your network marketing business.  By having your own blog, you can:

  • Provide valuable content and information to your readers that has been written by you.
  • Develop relationships and earn the trust of your readers by interacting with them through comments.
  • Network with other people by reading and commenting on their blogs.  This step can generate interest in your blog and more importantly traffic to your blog.
  • Generate your own leads. The best leads in network marketing are the ones you create yourself.  And you don’t have to pay for them.

If you are serious about building your network marketing business, you need to have a blog where you can control the content, interact with your readers, and earn their trust.  In return, they will be more open to purchasing your products and hopefully choose you as their leader.

  • Hi Patty, I really like your advice here of having a blog. The good thing about it is that we can connect with our audience and interact in a human way. Unlike other marketing strategies that treats people like statistics. :-)
  • I think that we are all in agreement that having a blog is a priority when it comes to being in business, no matter what business you are in. Thank you for all of your comments, gentlemen!
  • Blogging has become such a powerful tool that even large companies are setting up blogs giving their customers advice and solutions.
  • You've nailed it, particularly number 4. That's no way to get targeted traffic. Those cookie-cutter sites all lead back to the main company, which is fine by them, but what about the company rep?

Blogging beats static sites hands down.
  • Absolutely correct. I just wish that more people, especially in business would see the benefit. Networking, contact. Remember the age old concept of word of mouth. Nothing spreads better.
  • Spot on Patti! And it's one of the areas where pure marketers can learn from us bloggers. Conversion from your sales page will go through the roof if people have come there via a useful blog which has given them some decent free information.
